Oculoplastic Surgery: Ptosis

Ptosis is drooping of the eyelid itself. Often there is no
excess skin as in the photo. Typically the eyelids should ride near the top
of the colored part of the eye (iris) without any white showing. Surgery is
typically completed in 30 minutes under local anesthesia with some mild
sedation. Brusing can occur similar to blepharoplasty and sutures are
removed in one week following surgery. Final results are assessed at the
one month post op visit. Revisions of surgery to correct persistant
droopyness or asymetry occur in aprox 5%of cases. |
